Swamptree Sater has been rapping his whole life. By freestyling with friends and rapping his own lyrics to the radio, Swamptree has honed his wordsmith skill to a sharpened weapon of lyrical wisdom. Sater is his family name. Swamptree refers to his Looziana roots and the World Tree, Yggdrasil.
Swamptree grew up on the West Bank of the Big Muddy in a little town called Marrero. As a boy, he rode his bike all over the city, played with gators and frogs, and was two-time backyard wrestling champion of Oak Street. At age 13, the Sater family moved north to Bay City, Michigan, where Swamptree learned not everybody says "y'all" and "ain't." Five high schools later, he recieved a diploma from the now-defunct Wenona Center. He ain't no dummy.
Swamptree spent four years in the Air Force as an Airborne Korean Linguist, graduating at the top of his class. After leaving the service, he spent several years alternating between addiction and incarceration. He lived the fast life of dealing drugs and thugging out on a moped on the mean streets of Owensboro, KY. While in prison, Swamptree discovered Norse Paganism and his life transformed forever. He became determined to make his life more meaningful. He felt he had to find what family meant after a lifetime of broken homes. But how to share the wisdom of a lifetime of mistakes?
Swamptree Sater is a convict, a veteran, a trippy hippie from the banks of the Mississippi, and a Heathen. The hammer around his neck means he holds virtue and family near his heart. He enjoys live music, especially festivals. Heavily influenced by rock, rap, and country, Swamptree wants to rekindle the spirit of old-school hip-hop with simple, beats and a variety of lyrical flows. With subject matter ranging from fighting demons to felonies to trippy scenes, he brings a unique flavor to the independent rap community.
Swamptree Sater makes music to motivate, inspire, and educate. He also believes in the groove. He plans to stay real and make his own deals. He believes the age of materialism and digitized entertainment must not replace the longing for a better place where we can all get together and dance to the same beat.
